A Royal Oak Farmers Market Wedding By Detroit Wedding Photographers: ME+HIM Photography
Kayla and Brett’s wedding at Royal Oak farmers market can be summed up in one single thought: “sui generis.”
adjective, latin.
A person or thing that is unique, in a class by itself. From Latin, meaning “of his, her, its, or their own kind; unique.”
…and it was FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN folks.
Everything Kayla + Brett did on their wedding day was intentional and perfectly representative of their personalities and relationship. It was such a pleasure to be a part of a wedding where everyone was so present in their celebration. As far as Royal Oak weddings go, this was as non-generic, non-traditional and non-boring as they come. It’s hard to pick a favorite moment, but it had to be one of these:
- one of the most epic dance parties we’ve ever attended,
- the friendship bracelets they exchanged,
- when Kayla and Brett decided to tend bar during their cocktail hour,
- probably our favorite mother + son dance of all time.
We kept saying this over and over on their wedding day, but it was “so Kayla and Brett.” That might seem like an unimaginative way to describe the style of a wedding, but you would only say that if didn’t know Kayla and Brett (and if you were kinda mean). They are gregarious, principled, intelligent and completely captivating individuals. And how they blended those beautiful qualities on their wedding day is a staggering afflatus. We really can’t thank them enough for inviting us into their lives and letting us document these important moments in their life.
Their day started out at their home where Kayla got ready. While Brett got ready in a local Royal Oak hotel. From there we went to downtown Detroit in their decked out school bus from Detroit Bus Company and explored Eastern Market. Eastern Market is honestly one of our favorite parts of Detroit and it certainly fit this group of friends to a T. We can’t wait to be back at the Royal Oak Farmers Market for a wedding!
Once we arrived at Royal Oak Farmers Market we spent the rest of the night partying away (see epic dancing as a reference). Their ceremony was intimate and personal and affectionate. After Kayla and Brett shared their vows the mood of the room was, as the cliche saying goes: “there wasn’t a dry eye in the room.” Except this time we mean it for-realsies.
